This is a short application form to apply to join a new Lost Mine of Phandelver D&D beginner campaign starting in late June / early July 2018. The main goal of this form is to get to know you, work out if you are serious and committed to playing and if you are a good fit for the game group.
This group is very open to all types of players including NEWBIE players (in fact this entire campaign is an adventure specifically designed for new players to learn D&D) however it would be great if you could read the basic rules before playing our first session. You can
download the basic rules here. But don't let that stop you from applying! You can always ask if you need help with understanding any of the rules before we start our first game session.
Game Details:- Game frequency: Weekly
- Time: US Central Friday night at 9pm EST (UTC -5) / Australian Saturday at 12 noon AEST (UTC +10)
- Tabletop: Fantasy Grounds. I have an ultimate license so you would only need to have the free demo version
- Voice: Discord (voice only, no video)
Being committed to showing up every week is the most important thing you need to know before joining this game. Players not showing up is the most common way that games fall apart. The game will run for 3 hours every week and we may finish a little early or extend if the story requires it.
What to expect: This adventure will take new players from level 1 to level 5 over the course of about 20-30 hours of gameplay (possibly more depending on the players actions).
Requirements:- Please only apply if you can commit to 1 x 3 hour weekly games for the next 8-10 weeks.
- Please also only apply if you have never played the Lost Mine of Phandelver before since its going to be a lot more fun if everyone does not know how the adventure will play out.
- We will be using races and classes from the D&D 5e Player's Handbook (PHB) only.
How do we play? Games will be held online using the virtual table top program called "
Fantasy Grounds" which has all the maps and content loaded up for this specific adventure. Fantasy Grounds makes it a much more fun experience and has a whole heap of tools to keep track of your character during the adventure. We will also be using the free app called Discord to communicate via voice during the game (voice only, no video). Naturally that means you will need a working microphone to play.
There will be a session 0 (a preparation session) before we start so everyone can take a look at Fantasy Grounds, review each others characters, discuss your backstory and how it ties into the story and discuss basic expectations for the game. You are expected to come to session 0 with a draft character sheet (even if not completed). If you need help with character creation that is no problem, we will all help you 🙂
About the GM As a GM, I will do my best to make you feel welcome and support you in YOUR epic adventure. You can expect a fair game from me where your choices will be mostly responsible for your character's success and fate. You can also expect me to act inclusively at all times.
As a GM I won't be "out to get you", but you always have the potential to face ruthless enemies, real danger and even death in each session if you make bad decisions or have bad luck (often at the same time).
Naturally, knowing that as your GM I can, at times (not always!), be absolutely merciless, your victories and accomplishments will also have much more meaning. The dramatic moments will be more intense. The lighter moments will be a welcome relief at times. And, if your character does suffer the horrible fate of death for whatever reason, you can always create a new character and we'll easily find a way to bring them into the story. In no way am I implying that generating a new character will be common, I just want to let you know that you won't be eliminated from the game.
Most of all we are here to have fun! So if you're looking for a group where your choices matter and FUN is the #1 goal then apply below.
